The Ceramic Diffuser

A matte ceramic vessel on a wood-grain base. It sits quietly on a shelf, a nightstand, a bathroom counter — and carries scent through a room on a fine cool mist. No heat. No flame. No smoke.

The ceramic cover is thin enough to let light through, so at night the whole upper dome glows softly from within. We chose ceramic over plastic for one reason: it should feel like an object you own, not a gadget you tolerate.

It runs all night

The tank holds 200 ml — up to eight hours of continuous mist. Fill it in the evening and it is still working when you wake up. Or set it to stop after one, three or six hours and forget about it. When the water runs out, it switches itself off.

The light, if you want it

Seven colours, cycling slowly. Press again on the one you like and it holds there — bright or dim, your choice. Hold the button and the light goes off completely, so it can work in the dark. Some people never turn it on. Some people buy it for this.

It runs on USB-C at 5 V and draws 5 W — less than a phone charging. The cable is in the box; use any USB plug, laptop port or power bank you already have in the house.

Living with it

Fill to the line with clean tap water. Add five to eight drops of fragrance oil for a full tank, or half-fill it and use three or four — which is what most evenings actually need. Start low. It is easier to add one drop tomorrow than to live with a room that is too loud tonight.

Once a week, empty it and wipe the bowl with a little white vinegar. Malta's water is hard, and limescale on the ceramic disc is the one thing that shortens a diffuser's life. Five minutes solves it.
